Nov. 19, 2014 WACO, Texas - After Baylor volleyball announced three new Bear to play volleyball Nov. 12, head coach Jim Barnes announced three additional signees Wednesday to bring BU's signing class to six.
In addition to Shelly Fanning (MB), Jordan Vail (MB) and Amanda Lesikar (LS/OH), the Bears will add outside hitter Ashley Fritcher and setters Madilyn McCarty and Kelsey Slechta to the fold.
Fritcher is a 6-2 player out of Stratford High School and a product of the Willowbrook Juniors Volleyball club.
"She's ranked in the top 250 in PrepVolleyball.com, and she's a strong lefty with a huge block," said Baylor head coach Jim Barnes. "She will be an offensive force that will be tough for defenses to stop, and she has a very strong work ethic."
McCarty is a 5-11 setter out of Springfield High School from Springfield, Ill.
"She's a dynamic setter who also played middle in high school. She's got the speed and athleticism to develop into a terrific Big 12 setter," said Barnes.
Slechta is a local product out of Midway High School in Waco and led the state of Texas in assists this year. She is the granddaughter of the late Paul J. Meyer, which the carries the namesake of the floor Baylor plays on at the Ferrell Center.
"Kelsey is a very consistent setter with great accuracy. She won a gold medal with Junior Olympic volleyball team with her club team, Waco Juniors," Barnes said.
