IRVING, Texas - Baylor junior defensive end Shawn Oakman was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Saturday's 49-28 win over Oklahoma State, the league announced Monday.

Oakman recorded six tackles (all of a career-high solo variety), a career-high tying two sacks, a quarterback hurry and forced a fumble in the victory over the Cowboys. His sack and strip fumble of OSU QB Mason Rudolph in the fourth quarter allowed BU to run out the clock to win the game. It was the junior's third forced fumble of the season and the fifth of his career. Oakman's other sack came in the fourth quarter as well and was for a five-yard loss. In addition to the two sacks, two more of the defensive end's tackles were for no gain. He has eight sacks on the season and 10 in his career.

The Lansdowne, Pa., product is BU's sixth Big 12 weekly award winner of the season. That mark ties for the most in a single season as BU was awarded six weekly honors in 2011 and 2013 as well. In total, Baylor has had 14 defensive players honored a combined 18 times since 2001.

It is the first player of the week honor of Oakman's career. He is BU's first defensive honoree of the year and the first since K.J. Morton was recognized on Dec. 9, 2013.

The fifth-ranked Bears face Texas Tech on Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The game will be televised on ABC at 2:30 p.m.
