BAYLOR POSTGAME QUOTES
Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
Opening Statement...
"We did cut down [on turnovers]. Having only two at the half was pretty special, but in the second half we still had some unforced turnovers. Seven kids were in double figures, and that is a first for us. That's probably typical of this team because it will be like that all year. We have a lot of kids that can score and play. We were minus another ball-handler and perimeter player with Kristy Wallace out. I thought that Imani [Wright] and Iesha [Smalls], when Niya [Johnson] picked up her second foul early in the first half, they handled it very well. I was pleased with our effort. You can live with mistakes when they are made with effort. I thought that it was good to be back on the floor no matter who you played. 10 Days is a long time playing against each other. It was good to get out there and play [against someone else]."
On tonight's defensive effort...
"I thought that our energy was good. As you can tell, it's very difficult to guard anybody when you are one-on-one with the hand-check rule. We've got to really emphasize taking charges and being a great help defender. That's still a work-in-progress. We did try to take those charges and some of the calls we didn't get. We've just got to keep working on that because if someone has the ball and they've made up their mind, you're not going to stop them."
On wearing Utah State down as the game went on...
"I think that we are in pretty good shape. We spent 10 days of trying to improve our conditioning. We didn't handle ourselves very well at Kentucky, and I thought conditioning was a big part of that."
Sophomore Imani Wright
On the balanced attack tonight...
"In practice, Coach Mulkey has been saying that our scoring needs to be a balanced attack from everywhere. I think that we did well sharing the ball as a team, looking for the post and taking open shots."
On getting open looks tonight...
"My teammates got me really good looks. It is always good to have a team that shares the ball. I just take the shots when they are presented to me."
Sophomore Khadijiah Cave
On being ready to play after 10 days...
"I was very anxious and excited to get back on the floor. I know that we practiced a lot, but I was ready to get back out there and show what our team had been doing in practice."
On this year's depth...
"We have length, size, people who can run the floor and play post. Our post play has really grown over the past two years. So far we have done very well at post."
