ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Bryce Petty threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns and playoff hopeful Baylor held on for a 48-46 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday.
Shock Linwood ran for 158 yards and two touchdowns for the fifth-ranked Bears (10-1, 7-1 Big 12, No. 7 CFP), who after their usual offensive shootout with Texas Tech are guaranteed at least a share of their second consecutive conference title if they win at home over No. 11 Kansas State next Saturday.
The Bears are also hoping for a much bigger prize. They are already two spots behind Big 12 co-leader TCU, which is coming off an impressive 48-10 Thanksgiving night romp at Texas.
Patrick Mahomes set a Big 12 freshman record with his 593 yards on 30 of 56 passing that included six touchdowns, the last a 40-yarder to Bradley Marquez with 1:42 left before he was under heavy pressure and sacked on a two-point try. The Red Raiders then tried an onside kick that was recovered by Linwood.
Petty was hurt midway through the third quarter after taking a high hit from linebacker Sam Eguavoen, who was penalized for a personal foul. Petty remained down for several minutes before getting up and walking slowly to the sideline and then going to the locker room.
Baylor officials called it a "mild concussion." Petty was back on the sideline before the end of the third quarter, still wearing his uniform but without his shoulder pads and helmet.
Seth Russell took over for Petty, and six plays later threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Levi Norwood to make it 42-17.
The teams traded field goals before Texas Tech scored 20 unanswered points, on three long touchdowns passes by Mahomes.
After 1,000-yard rusher DeAndre Washington turned a short pass into a 49-yard TD with 8:13 left, the Red Raiders were within 45-40 after a failed two-point try.
Baylor then went 56 yards on 13 plays for Chris Callahan's 36-yard field goal that proved to be the difference.
The Bears have won four straight games in the series played at the Dallas Cowboys' NFL stadium. This one turned into the expected shootout even though it was only 7-0 after the first quarter on Linwood's 8-yard run.
After combining to average nearly 101 points and 1,145 total yards per game the last three years, they had 94 points and 1,254 yards this time. Texas Tech rolled up 707 yards, and Baylor had 547.
The Red Raiders, long known for big passing numbers, had three 100-yard receivers for the first time since 2005 - Marquez (six catches, 130 yards, three TDs), Washington (six, 107, one) and Jakeem Grant (five, 150, one). Washington, Tech's first 1,000-yard rusher since 1998, also had 65 yards rushing on 15 carries.
Petty was 18 of 25 passing and Russell, who started a game earlier this season with Petty was out with a back injury, was 8 of 17 for 82 yards and a touchdown.

• Linwood went over the 1,114-yard mark on the season (1,135 yards) to surpass Jerod Douglas' (1995) program sophomore rushing record -- Linwood also owns the BU freshman rushing record (881).
• RB Johnny Jefferson ran for his fourth TD in his 8th career game.
• WR Corey Coleman has sole possession of 6th on BU's single-season receiving TDs list with 10 and extended nation's longest streak with a TD grab to 8 straight games.
• MLB Bryce Hager had 9 tackles and a TFL -- he's had 60 tackles over last 6 games, after having 29 in previous 5.
• LB Collin Brence recovered the first fumble of his career on a play in 1st quarter where TTU had gained a 1st down on 4th down in BU territory.
• LB Taylor Young forced the 2nd fumble of his career and season and it was recovered by BU.
• DE K.J. Smith recovered his 1st career fumble.
• NB Travon Blanchard recorded his 1st career interception on TTU's 1st possession of the second half.
• CB Ryan Reid had his 2nd forced fumble of the season and 3rd of his career and recovered it for his first-ever recovery.
