Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
Opening Statement...
"Well, first I want to compliment the other team. Those girls shoot the ball, but we knew they could shoot the ball. Some of them were contested, some of them we couldn't defend very well. That little back screen when they drive on the other side. You know, we can go over it in practice a million times but then we get burned on it three or four times. Give those guys credit. But then, give us credit for winning the game."
On Kristy Wallace getting her groove..
"Yeah, I thought Kristy shot the ball extremely well. They were challenging us to shoot open jumpers, and at the beginning of the game we missed a lot of them, and then we were hesitant to shoot some of them. I think at one point we had 30-something perimeter shots to five post touches, and if a defender doesn't want you to get it, then they can pretty much keep you from getting it in there. So we needed to do, a better job of making shots and getting ball reversal. We needed to do a better job of just being patient, and we did better. I think it is very obvious what they're trying to do us. They wanted us to not have post touches and slow down the transition game. And, we gave up way too many points. We scored a lot of points, but credit those guys. They hit a lot of shots.
On Idaho making Baylor take perimeter shots...
"They were wide open shots, and that's what their game plan was, obviously. At this level, you have to be able to knock those shots down, and we did. We did in the second half better than the first half."
On Stacy Barr...
"I'm glad I didn't guard her; they can shoot and those guys are the WAC champs for two straight years. They are a solid team. They do a lot of things that make you look bad, and they back-door cut you, and they spread the floor on you and they bring our post away from the basket. And, I just thought that their offense makes you look bad, and I thought she was very good.
Baylor guard Kristy Wallace
On her familiarity with Stacy Barr..
"No, I don't know her. I hear she's from Australia, though, but I've never met her. She hit some incredible shots tonight."
On being jetlagged...
"I have been a little bit jetlagged lately the last couple of nights. But, I had a good sleep last night, and yeah, I just did what I had to do on the court."
On their guards and stepping up...
"It was important, somebody needed to step up and hit some shots.."
Baylor post Sune Agbuke
On operating in a tight zone...
"I mean at first it was kind of confusing. You didn't realize, you always felt like someone was on you. And, then, when you shot the ball you felt like two people were boxing you out, and it was kind of frustrating at first. Me and Nina [Davis] just had to emphasize just keep moving and not to stay still, because, I guess that's what they wanted. We started moving more and then the guards hit a lot of shots and we started hitting layups and kind of got what we wanted. But, we really just had to keep moving.
On No. 13 Ali Forde...
"She was really active. She used a lot of ball fakes and a lot of head fakes. She is really crafty and a really smart player. She's good."
On having her defense where she wants it to be...
"I always try to help my teammates. I think that's the No. 1. I am going to help them. I think if they get beat, I want the person they're guarding to see me first. So, I mean, that's just kind of what I emphasize; to help a lot."
Idaho Head Coach Jon Newlee
Opening Statement:
"I thought we really came out and battled tonight. I was proud of the way we got after it. We were attacking, we didn't play back on our heels, and we didn't play scared because we shouldn't. We're back to back WAC champions. We played in the NCAA tournament, we've played UConn, we've played Louisville. It's the same deal as coming in here and playing Baylor. That was our attitude coming in, and it's our attitude coming out. We came in and gave it our best shot, and we just happened to lose tonight."
On packing in the zone to slow Baylor's bigs ...
"We did a great job of packing it in. We just decided we were going to pack it in and make them shoot the ball from outside. If they make shots, so be it. Obviously [Kristy] Wallace really burned us out there, but other than that, no one else was really hurting us. I told our kids we did a great job inside of neutralizing their bigs, especially for a team as undersized as we were. We don't have that depth at the post so everyone had to battle, and I was proud of the way we did battle."
Senior Guard Stacey Barr
On her performance:
"It would've been a lot better to come away with the win, but we executed our offense and that gave me a lot of shots, off some great passes from my teammates. Fortunately I knocked down some open ones I had tonight."
On playing against fellow Australian Kristy Wallace:
"She's a great player. She made a lot of threes and hurt us big time. But, it's always good to play against other Australians; it's fun whether you know them or not. She had a good game tonight."
