THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas - Baylor's 17th-ranked women's tennis team earned a 6-1 victory over No. 18 Oklahoma on Sunday at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center to clinch a share of its 10th Big 12 regular season title.
Baylor (20-6, 8-0) won its 10th straight match, including seven consecutive contests over ranked foes. The loss dropped Oklahoma to 15-5 overall and 5-3 in Big 12 play.
To start the match, BU's pairing of Ema Burgic and Kiah Generette took down Morgan Chumney and Emma Devine, 8-3, at the No. 2 spot.
On court one, Jordaan Sanford and Victoria Kisialeva could not get past 70th-ranked Mia Lancaster and Whitney Ritchie, 8-5. Clinching the doubles point for Baylor, Blair Shankle and Alex Clay defeated Hermon Brhane and Zita Engbroks, 8-4, on court three.
The Lady Bears are now 19-5 in doubles points this season and have won every match in which they have won the doubles point.
In singles action, Sanford struck first with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Chumney at the No. 3 spot. Clay put another point on the board for BU as she downed Abbi Melrose, 6-1, 6-1, at the bottom of the lineup.
To clinch the match for Baylor, Leatu downed Emma Devine, 7-5, 6-4, at the No. 5 spot.
Those first three points of the day in singles for Baylor all came from seniors. Clay, Leatu, Sanford along with Abby Stainback were all recognized prior to the match in a Senior Day celebration.
OU earned its only point of the day on court four where Lancaster took control over No. 116 Shankle, 6-3, 7-6. The loss snapped a 14-match winning for Shankle.
Wrapping up play, Baylor's 51st-ranked Generette took down No. 86 Richie, 4-6, 2-4, 7-5, at the top of the lineup.

Baylor will have a chance to go for the outright Big 12 title when the Lady Bears travel to Austin, Texas, to face the No. 22 Texas on Friday at 5 p.m.
