WACO, Texas - The Baylor volleyball team dropped the first set, but the Bears rebounded to take a 25-27, 25-20, 25-20, 25-22 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday morning at the Ferrell Center.
Baylor begins the season at 2-0 adding to its defeat of Abilene Christian Friday night in the Hampton Inn Waco North Baylor Invitational.
The Bears had three players with double-doubles in the win over the Islanders (1-1). Andie Malloy led the charge with 19 kills and 16 digs, Amy Rosenbaum had 30 assists and 15 digs, and Katie Staiger had 10 kills and 18 digs.
Baylor hit just -.019 in the first set, but rebounded with a .244 in set two, a .293 in set three and scraped it out in set four with a .195 effort. TAMCC hit just .093 for the match, and Baylor held its second straight opponent under a .100 hitting percentage offensively, thanks to 14 blocks. Tola Itiola tied a career-high with eight blocks while adding a career-high 10 kills.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Andie Malloy led the Bears with 19 kills and had her first double-double in a Baylor uniform, adding 16 digs.
- Amy Rosenbaum led Baylor with 30 assists and added 15 digs defensively.
- Katie Staiger had 10 kills and 18 digs for her first career double-double.
- Tola Itiola tied a career-high with eight blocks and added a career-high 10 kills.
- Hope Ogden led the Bears with 23 digs defensively.
- Freshman Neka Cupetilli made her college debut and provided help defensively with five assisted blocks and three kills.

"TAMCC played great. They played hard, limited their mistakes and played great defense. So, we were going to have to earn every point; which is what I wanted. We just had some players who didn't respond very well or weren't very aggressive. We had way too many breakdowns on defense to get any runs going so when we got that shored up, that's when we started making a run back. "
