THE RUNDOWN WASHINGTON, D.C. - By a slim margin, the Baylor volleyball team won all three sets for a sweep of George Washington Friday night at the Smith Center with the Bears winning 30-28, 25-23, 25-23.
The Bears (7-2) knocked off the Colonials (5-2) in their own tournament by hitting .295, the second-highest hitting percentage of the season for Baylor. Katie Staiger hit .423 and led the Bears with 13 kills.
George Washington kept with Baylor step-for-step, but the Bears always held the edge; the Colonials hit .267, but were limited to a .194 mark in the final set.
Baylor led 8-3 early in set one, and finally ended the first frame on back-to-back kills by Adrien Richburg and Staiger for the final two points of the set.
In the second set, the Bears again jumped out to a 10-4 lead early before GWU eventually took a 16-15 lead. But, after the score was 17-all, the Bears rattled off five-straight points including two kills from Staiger to help seal the set.. The score was tied four times in the third set at 14, 19, 22 and 23, but the Bears never trailed.
HIGHLIGHTS
• Katie Staiger had 13 kills, which marks her fifth consecutive match with double-digit kills, and sixth of the season.
• Staiger hit .423, which was the second-highest percentage of the season for the redshirt freshman.
• Adrien Richburg and Andie Malloy had 10 kills apiece. It was Malloy's eighth match of the season with double-digit kills and third for Richburg.
• Nicole Bardaji had 13 digs, which was a career high, and her second-straight match with double-digit digs.
• Hope Ogden had 10 digs, which was her seventh match of the season with double-digit digs.
