THE RUNDOWN WASHINGTON, D.C. - Baylor finished as the only undefeated team at George Washington's Colonials Challenge this weekend, capping the tournament with a 25-20, 25-21, 25-22 win over Columbia Saturday.
The Bears finished a six-match road trip with a 5-1 record, and Baylor is 8-2 through the first 10 matches of the season.
Baylor's offensive effort wasn't at its strongest as the Bears hit .133, however, the BU defense held the Lions to a .093 hitting effort in the win. Andie Malloy had 11 kills and Tola Itiola's six total blocks helped the Bears collect eight team blocks.
Hope Ogden had four service aces without an error and had 21 digs in a strong defensive effort. Baylor took wins over Illinois State, GWU and Columbia in the round-robin tournament.
Katie Staiger was named tournament MVP and Andie Malloy joined her on the all-tournament team.
HIGHLIGHTS
• Andie Malloy had 11 kills giving her nine matches out of 10 this season with at least 10 kills.
• Hope Ogden led Baylor with 21 digs and Nicole Bardaji chipped in 10.
• Tola Itiola had six kills and six blocks, including two solo blocks for the match.
• Baylor's 8-2 start in 2014 is four wins better than last season's 4-6 mark through 10 games.
