THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas - Baylor women's tennis was perfect on the second day of the Under Armour Kick-Off event at the Hurd Tennis Center on Saturday.
Four BU players combined to produce four singles victories and two doubles wins.
Blair Shankle continued her dominant start to the season with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Aryn Greene of Alabama. Meanwhile, Kelley Anderson picked up her first win as Bear, tallying a 6-2, 6-1 victory vs. Alabama's Carmen Blanco.
Rachael James-Baker also improved to 2-0 on the season with a 7-6(2), 6-4 triumph over Alabama's Bennett Dunn. In the final match of the day, Ema Burgic earned a hard-fought 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 win over Emily Zabor of Alabama.
To open the morning, Baylor's doubles tandems went 2-0. The 37th-ranked pairing of Burgic and Shankle downed USC's Giuliana Olmos and Madison Westby, 8-1. Newcomers Anderson and James-Baker bested USC's Zoe Scandalis and Meredith Xepoleas of USC, 8-2.
At the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland, Texas, freshman Eliza long dropped two matches on Saturday. Due to weather delays, Long's matches were shortened to an eight-game pro set. She opened the day by falling to Erin Walker of Abilene Christian, 8-5, and then dropped an 8-5 decision to Alexis Thoma of North Texas.
HIGHLIGHTS
• Shankle has only lost seven games through two singles matches in 2014.
• Dating back to last season, Shankle has won her last seven singles decisions.
• BU has yet to lose a doubles match this season with a 3-0 record.
