THE RUNDOWN
AUSTIN - Baylor soccer earned a 2-1 win over Texas Sunday afternoon at Myers Stadium in soggy conditions. The Bears (9-5-2, 4-1-1) used two second half goals to take down the Longhorns (7-5-4, 4-3-1) as BU has now gone undefeated in 10 of its last 11 matches.
Baylor led shots (6-4) and shots on goal (3-1) in the first half but was not able to find the back of the net. However, things changed in a three-minute span in the second half.
In the 65th minute, UT committed a hand ball in its own box to set up a penalty kick. Katie Daigle took the kick and went to the left post for the 1-0 Baylor edge. Then in the 68th minute, a UT yellow card set up the Bears with a solid scoring chance and Ashley York helped BU take advantage by finding Lauren Piercy in the box with a pass. Piercy gathered and fired a 15-yard shot to the left post for a 2-0 lead.
In the 86th minute, Texas' Mikayla Flores cut the Baylor lead in half with a goal, but it marked the last quality scoring chance for the Longhorns.
