TULSA, Okla. -- Baylor men's tennis senior and 87th-ranked
Felipe Rios dropped a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 decision to No. 119 Jeffrey Schorsch of Valparaiso at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
In the opening match of the qualifying singles draw, Rios' loss ended his run at advancing to the main draw. However, the senior followed up the loss with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over No. 62 Mitch Stewart of Washington in consolation action.
The senior is now 1-1 in collegiate matches this fall. The victory in consolation play was Rios' final contest at the event.
Meanwhile at the ITF Futures of Mansfield, freshman Jimmy Bendeck was knocked out of the event one match short of a main draw appearance, after falling to Axel Alvarez Llamas 6-3, 6-2 on Monday morning.
Before the loss, the true freshman from Hollywood, Florida produced a three-set triumph to reach the third round of the qualifying draw.
WHAT'S NEXT
Due to injury, senior Julian Lenz will not participate in the ITF Futures of Mansfield. Junior Max Tchoutakian will face Illinois' Jared Hiltzik in the opening round of the main draw Wednesday.
