THE RUNDOWN AMES, Iowa ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" The Baylor volleyball team (16-13, 4-11 Big 12) dropped its final Big 12 road match with the Iowa State Cyclones (17-9, 11-5 Big 12) on Tuesday at the Hilton Coliseum, 25-20, 25-16, 20-25, 25-21.
BU got off to a hot start, carrying a 12-9 lead midway through the first set. ISU regrouped and rattled off a 6-0 run to take a 15-12 advantage. The Bears battled back, tying up the set at 19-19. The Cyclones responded with another big run, closing out the set 6-1 to take the first.
In the second set, Iowa State carried the hot hand, leading 14-6. BU scratched and clawed back in, getting to within 17-15, helped by three consecutive service aces by Andie Malloy. The Cyclones pieced together another big run, closing out the second set on an 8-1 push to go up 2-0.
In the third set, Baylor put together a solid effort, hitting .400 as a team and taking the set point, 25-20.
In the fourth and final set, the Bears and Cyclones traded points down the stretch, pulling to within one at 19-18. The Cyclones closed down the late BU push, taking the set and match at 25-21.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Katie Staiger led the Bears with 11 kills on 28 attacks with only one error, posting a .357 hitting effort.
- Staiger also matched a career-high with five blocks.
- Mackenzie Mayo led BU with 16 digs.
- Amy Rosenbaum recorded a season-high five kills from the setter position for the Bears.
- Coming off a season-high 12 service errors, BU tied for its season-low mark (3).
- The third set win snapped an 11-set losing skid for the Bears.
