BAYLOR POSTGAME QUOTES
Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On Alexis Jones and Niya Johnson's playà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Well you can see when you have that many ball handlers, they are going to have to play together. It was very obvious that we can be as quick as we need to be in transition. We can be as big as we need to be. So a lot of combinations thrown out there on the floor tonight without your All-American, I thought we did fine. I figured we would see a lot of zone. They were smaller than we were, so we got to work on some zone stuff. I thought that we came out of the gates pretty good shooting threes. Turnovers, you never like turnovers, but for the most part it was a good game."
On how big of a weapon the 3-point shots can be for the teamà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"(Alexis) Prince can shoot the three. (Alexis) Jones brings the three ball to the floor for us and we know what Kristy (Wallace) can do for us. When those three get on a roll and they are on the floor at the same time, you have to pick and choose your poison because they all shot it well."
On the energy Alexis Jones bringsà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Well she is just a tremendous passer. She is a tremendous player, but she can pass so you better get your hands ready. Sometimes players like tend to pass it too much, but I thought she distributed the ball well tonight. I thought she shot it well. It's just good to have a kid like that working with Niya, who is probably going to break every record we have that Odyssey Sims owns here. To think that Kristy is just a sophomore, Prince has another year, Jones has another year - those are some of the finest perimeter players you will see."
Junior Alexis Jones
On her first game with the teamà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It just felt good to be out there with the team and I just enjoyed being able to play."
On getting in a grooveà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Just from sitting out a whole year and actually getting out there and playing, it was a little different at first, but then when I got in I was able to get back into it."
Senior Niya Johnson
On playing with Alexis Jonesà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It makes a huge difference. She pushes the ball just as much as I do and its fun just feeding off of each other. It's great when we have three point guards in there, because any one of us can push the ball, which makes it fun for out post players because they know they are going to receive the ball."
On how nice it is to play another teamà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It's very nice. I get tired of playing [Baylor] everyday. We know our strengths and weaknesses and just playing against an opponent we are not familiar with helps tremendously, because we have to play great defense and rebound. I thought we did a great job rebounding tonight as well."
