Women's Tennis Nabs Two Sunday Shutouts

THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas -
The sixth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team (6-0) picked up two more shutout victories Sunday with wins against No. 25 Tulsa and Incarnate Word at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.

MATCH 1
Baylor started its day by cruising past Tulsa (6-2), 4-0. The Lady Bears picked up the doubles point with Ema Burgic and Blair Shankle tallying a 6-1 victory over Renata Kuricova and Ksenia Laskutova at the top of the lineup. To clinch the point, Rachael James-Baker and Kiah Generette teamed up for a 7-5 victory against Mahitha Dadireddy and Saana Saarteinen on court three.

BU carried the momentum into singles play. The 49th-ranked Shankle downed Yelena Nemchen, 6-1, 6-0 on court two. The 72nd-ranked Burgic put the Lady Bears up 3-0 as she beat Ksenia Laskutov, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot. Generette clinched the match for Baylor by taking out Rongrong Leenabancho, 6-2, 6-3 on court three.

With the contest decided, the final three singles matches were abandoned.

MATCH 2
To close out the day, Baylor dominated Incarnate Word (0-4) for a 7-0 victory. The Lady Bears won all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Burgic partnered with Kely Putri to win 6-1 at the top of the lineup. Generette and James-Baker were the next duo to clinch with a 6-3 victory on court two. Theresa Van Zyl and Anderson produced a 6-3 win on court three to give BU the doubles sweep.

In singles play, the 73rd-ranked Anderson was first to finish, carding a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Sarah Savedra on court three. Both Generette and Burgic recorded 6-0, 6-0 wins on courts two and one, respectively, to give BU the victory. With the match decided, Leolia JeanJean (6-1, 6-1), Van Zyl (6-2, 6-0) and Putri (6-1, 6-1) each picked up victories on courts five, four and six, respectively.
