THE RUNDOWN
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Baylor's track and field team opened the Tyson Invitational with three top-10 finishes Friday at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
In the 800-meter event, sophomore Brandon Moore also posted a personal-best mark of 1:50.01 to be sixth. On the women's side in that event, sophomore Jessica Purtell had a PR of 2:10.90 to be 13th.
In the field events, Felix Obi took sixth with a season-best leap of 24-4.25 [7.43m].
Senior Jonathan Tijerina was another top-10 finisher, who posted a personal-best of 4:11.90 to take ninth in the mile race.
Sophomore Trayvon Bromell qualified for the final of the 60-meter dash with the second-fastest qualifying time of 6.55, but then did not run in the final as he is scheduled to compete in Saturday's 200-meter dash competition.
IOWA STATE CLASSIC
Despite winning the distance medley relay title at the Lied Recreation Center in Ames, Iowa, Baylor's women's crew of Maggie Montoya, Raena Rhone, Olicia Williams and Mariah Kelly were unable to improve upon their season-best time. The quartet turned in a time of 11:11.28 to nab the crown Friday, but earlier this year at Kentucky the BU crew had run the nation's seventh-fastest time of 11:09.35.
WHAT'S NEXT
Baylor will be back in action at both the Tyson Invitational and the Iowa State Classic on Saturday. Field and running events are slated to begin at noon in Arkansas, while BU's participation in Ames starts at 1:30 p.m.
