Women's Tennis Tops Rice No. 35 Rice, 4-0

THE RUNDOWN
HOUSTON -
The sixth-ranked Baylor women's team (9-0) found success in its first road test of the season against No. 35 Rice (1-6), securing a 4-0 shutout victory Friday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.

Baylor captured the doubles point as Leolia JeanJean and Theresa Van Zyl defeated Savannah Durkin and Solomiya Zinko of Rice, 6-0, on court three. Shortly later, Baylor clinched the point when the 27th-ranked Ema Burgic and Blair Shankle beat Natalie Beazant and Katherine Ip, 6-3.

In singles action, the bottom of the lineup came through for the Lady Bears, with three points coming from the No. 4, 5, and 6 spots.

First, Kelley Anderson defeated Alison Ho by a score of 6-3, 6-4 on court five. The 86th-ranked Rachael James-Baker put BU up 3-0 with a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Durkin at the No. 4 spot. Finally, Van Zyl capped the evening with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Zinko at the bottom of the lineup.

With the match decided, the other three singles matches were abandoned.
