THE RUNDOWN
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
The sixth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team fell by a 4-3 margin at No. 12 Vanderbilt Sunday to lose its second match in a row after opening the year 10-0.

Vanderbilt (5-4) took the doubles point despite the No. 27 duo of Ema Burgic and Blair Shankle upsetting 18th-ranked Sydney Campbell and Courtney Colton, 6-1, at top of the lineup.

Baylor lost doubles matches at the No. 2 and 3 spots as Ashleigh Antal and Astra Sharma topped Leolia JeanJean and Theresa Van Zyl, 6-2, and Frances Altic and Marie Casares defeated Kelley Anderson and Kiah Generette, 6-3.

In singles, the Bears quickly fell behind 2-0 as 19th-ranked Burgic dropped a 6-0, 6-4 decision to No. 19 Campbell in the No. 1 singles position.

However, BU stormed back to take a 3-2 lead with wins by JeanJean (6-4, 6-1), Generette (6-0, 6-3), and the 79th-ranked Shankle (6-1, 7-5) over Antal, Sharma, and No. 71 Colton, respectively.

The comeback went for naught as the Commodores closed out the match with two wins. First, No. 89 Altic defeated Anderson 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, at the No. 4 spot.

With the match tied 3-3, the focus shifted to the match at No. 6 singles, which had started later due to the fact that the Currey Tennis Center only has five indoor courts. When Anderson lost her match, 86th-ranked Rachael James-Baker was down 6-4, 2-1 to No. 62 Casares. The Vanderbilt senior went on to take the match 6-4, 6-3 to clinch the contest.

The Bears fell to 0-2 on their current four-match road trip, which started with a 4-1 loss at No. 15 Michigan Friday.

TOP QUOTE #1
"Today we were better in many areas than we were against Michigan. However, this weekend we weren't consistent with playing the right way on every court and taking care of the details off the court. Unfortunately, this is a part of the process of trying to be a great team." - head coach Joey Scrivano on the match

TOP QUOTE #2
"On the bright side, Kiah (Generette) has been stellar for us this year. She brings an intangible will when she competes. Her approach and net game have improved and it's showing in her singles play. Ultimately, it's her attitude and her will to succeed that is the biggest separator." - Scrivano on Kiah Generette
