BAYLOR POSTGAME QUOTES

Baylor Head Coach Scott Drew
Opening Statement:

"I think we did a lot better of a job executing on the offensive end from the first time we played them. This time we had 19 assists on 29 field goals so that's a much better ratio than last time. I thought shooting 49%, 79% from the free-throw line was very good, and defensively we were solid. They hurt us in second-chance points and in transition in that first half, but this a much, much improved TCU team, which we all know, so it's a very good win, always good to win at home, and always good to see so many people in double figures, with five guys."

On moving ball a lot better this time:
"Rico [Gathers] did a great job rebounding along with everybody else, and getting it out to Kenny [Chery] and Lester [Medford], pitching it ahead, and getting buckets in transition, which I think made things easier. I thought we did a good job making the extra pass and it always helps when you make shots."

On how important it was to get out to an 8-0 lead, and never looking back or trail:
"I thought it was great to get off to that start, and I think at the end of the first half, and really how we started the second half as well. Giving credit to Kenny and Royce [O'Neale], as well as [Taurean Prince] and Rico making sure guys were ready to go by that first media timeout."

On the difference it makes when guys hit shots to get things going:
"No question, I think when you look at how Kenny, Lester and Royce had 14 assists and only four turnovers, that's a good ratio of getting people involved."

On Rico's consistency towards getting constant double-doubles:
"What you love about Rico and a lot of the guys on this team is that they're always going to play hard, and when you do that each and every night you give yourself a chance, and it's fun to go play no matter where it's at knowing you have guys that aren't going to be intimidated. They're not going to back down and they're going to give you everything they've got."

On having two good games back to back:
"We'll see, I hope it keeps going, but those are home games too, you know on the road you're going to have to pick it up. This is a league that each and every night if you don't bring it, you're going to lose. And if you bring it, then you give yourself a chance to win."

Junior F Rico Gathers
On opportunities to get more rebounds when Johnathan Motley is in foul trouble:

"I'm going to do my job and rebound regardless, but knowing that my other big man is in foul trouble, I know I have to pick up the slack. I was glad that he came in and hit some tough shots under the rim; he didn't have a whole lot of easy chances. He was battling every play, and that's what we do.

On this game being a physical one like the one up at TCU last time:
"I liked our physicality tonight. I think they came out really physical, especially in the second half. I was talking a little smack with [Michael] Williams, but that's because we know each other. It was getting really heated down in the paint, but I love that though. Every time the refs allow us to play like that, it's beneficial for me; it's beneficial for my teammates as well."

On his extra motivation in the crowd:
"It also helps when you have influential people in the stands. One of our good friends, now part of our family, John, was there tonight. He's been battling with a brain tumor, and he has to undergo I believe 43 treatments in the future, and when you have people like that in the stands watching you, you've got to be as positive as you can be. You want to leave an impact on them, and I think we did that tonight as a team. He came to the gym yesterday, and we really took him in as one of our brothers now, and we're going to be with him the rest of the way. Tuesday is his first day of treatment, and I'm hoping I can be there for him."

Senior G Kenny Chery
On being determined to not play the same kind of offensive game as the first meeting:

"We just had to make sure we were being aggressive and making shots, and we just prepared the right way. We've been practicing hard and it shows."

On hitting a lot of shots in a row going back to the second half of the Texas game:
"It's just another game. They played different than Texas, and I just wanted to come out aggressive and get guys involved and get the team going."

On the offense being on fire lately:
"When we're moving the ball like that, everybody's getting touches, and everybody feels comfortable."

TCU POSTGAME QUOTES

TCU Head Coach Trent Johnson
Opening Statement:

"Well, that was ugly by us; very non-competitive. I think we lost our composure about six minutes into the second half. This was the first time this group, this team, this year we got testy with one another. And it snowballed after that. I'm big on the idea that adversity reveals your character, tests your character, all those things; we didn't respond very well. We're a much better team that competes and plays much better than we showed in the second half. That was very disturbing."

On what changed between this game and the game at TCU vs. Baylor:
"It speaks to energy, competitiveness. You've got to guard without fouling. All those kinds of things. There's no secret to it for us. Our margin of error is pretty slim, we've got to be operating on all cylinders and be relentless with the ball, get 50/50 balls. Tonight we got out-rebounded 43-29. Two weeks ago we out-rebounded Kansas by 10 or eight. We're not talented enough to have one guy, like a Rico [Gathers], who can go get you a double-double, so we've got to be engaged, you've got to trust each other, you've got to protect each other, and help each other defensively which we talk about all the time. That's the bottom line."

On the mood of the team right now:
"Kids are kids. Kids are kids. Right now, I'm talking about this game which is fresh in my mind. We've got some guys trying to do things they can't do. Each guy has to look themselves in the mirror and say look, we've got to get back to competing and playing like we're capable of playing. Then we can have a decent February. If we don't we'll have a February like we did January."

Senior F Amric Fields
On TCU's trouble rebounding against Baylor:

"I think as of lately, we haven't been tough enough. We just have to get better at it. Baylor is a big, physical team. Rico Gathers rebounds it, obviously. Tonight we didn't show our toughness - we are tougher than this and we just got to figure it out."

On what Baylor did to pull away in the second half:
"They got a lot of transition buckets. We didn't get back like we should've, so they got a lot of easy points, especially at the beginning in their eight-zero run and also at the end of the first half."
