THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas - A day after hitting five home runs and combining for 17 runs in two wins, the No. 10 Baylor softball team used pitching to pick up two more vs. Texas A&M Corpus Christi Saturday. The Bears improved to 4-0 to start the season, and in the second day of the Getterman Classic BU took 6-3 and 6-0 wins, respectively over the Islanders.
Brooke Seneshen and Kendall Potts each picked up their first wins in a Baylor uniform. Seneshen pitched in game one, surrendered three unearned runs in five innings of work, and struck out three. Heather Stearns picked up her second consecutive save in as many games, striking out three in two innings.
Potts received a no-decision in Baylor's win over SFA Friday night in 3.2 innings of work. However, the freshman from Mansfield, Texas picked up her first win with a seven-inning complete-game shutout where she struck out six and walked just one.
In the first game on day two of the Fairfield Inn & Suites North Getterman Classic, Wichita State beat SFA 2-1 Saturday. The same two teams will play later in the evening to determine who will face Baylor in the championship game at Noon Sunday. TAMCC will face the loser of that game in the consolation game at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
BU VS. TAMCC GAME TWO NOTES
? After receiving a no-decision in her first collegiate start vs. SFA Friday, Kendall Potts not only picked up her first college win, but it was a complete-game shutout as well.
? Potts struck out six, walked just one and scattered three hits.
? Lindsey Cargill had two singles for the 13th multi-hit game of her career.
? Jordan Strickland picked up a single in the Baylor sixth to snap a 0-12 start; she ended the 2014 season on a seven-game hitting streak.
? Sarah Smith's pinch-hit single in the fifth extended her on-base streak to seven games; and she's hit safely in all four games in 2015.
BU VS. TAMCC GAME ONE NOTES
? Brooke Seneshen picked up her first win in a Baylor uniform allowing three unearned runs in five innings of work, and she struck out five.
? Heather Stearns picked up her second save in as many games with two innings of work. She struck out three in her fifth career save and stands alone as eighth on BU's career list for saves.
? Cargill stole a career-high three bases vs. the Islanders and tied a career-high with three runs scored (3, vs. California, 2/22/14). She became the first player since Kathy Shelton (vsUTA, 3/20/13) to steal three in a game.
? Cargill had two singles for the 12th multi-hit game of her career.
? Sarah Smith hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning. It was the 13th home run of her career.
? Smith's three RBI marked the 12th time in her career she's had multiple RBI in a game.
? Caitlin Charlton collected her first collegiate hit in the second inning with a single.
