THE RUNDOWN
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Baylor's track and field team racked up five event wins on Saturday at the Texas A&M Aggie Invitational at the Gilliam Indoor Stadium.
However, the top performance of the day was a second-place finish. Senior Raena Rhone posted the NCAA's second-fastest time of the year in the 400 meters by clocking a career-best mark of 52.80. Rhone bettered her previous PR of 53.43, set two weeks ago in Kentucky, by over .60 seconds. She was just .41 seconds off the school-record mark of Yulanda Nelson (52.39) set in 1999.
The first of Baylor's event wins came from Maggie Montoya in the mile. She ran a PR of 4:40.37 to win and tally the second-best time in history. The mark also currently ranks 12th in the NCAA and was just under four seconds better than her previous personal-best time (4:44.27).
Later in the day, Olicia Williams won the 800-meter crown in a career-best mark of 2:06.11. That time was second-best in school history as well and currently sits ninth-best in the NCAA.
On the men's side, Bryce Grace recorded another event win in the 60-meter hurdles. He had won the event in College Station three weeks ago, but used a time of 7.97 to take the title again on Saturday.
In the field events, Baylor's women racked up two more wins. For a third-straight meet Annie Rhodes bettered her own school record in the pole vault, turning in a mark of 13-11.25 [4.25m], which is currently seventh-best in the NCAA.
Competing in her second triple jump competition of the year, Brianna Richardson won the event with a leap of 41-9.25 [12.73m].
Baylor also had four other runner-up finishes. On the men's side in the quartermile, George Caddick produced a career-best mark of 46.54 to be the runner-up and tally the NCAA's ninth-best mark.
BU took home two more runner-up finishes in the middle distances. Rachel Johnson finished right behind Montoya in the mile with a career-best time of 4:43.86, while Mariah Kelly was just nipped by Williams in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:06.31. That time ranks third-best in school history and is currently 11th nationally.
Freshman Malik Wilson rolled to a runner-up placing by turning in a career-best mark of 6.78 in the 60-meter dash. In the field events, Lauren Cook took second in the high jump with a leap of 5-6 [1.68m].
BU's also had four third-place showings as freshman Kevin Harris recorded a career-best time of 21.20 to take bronze in the 200-meters. In his first long jump competition of the year, Felix Obi was third as well with a jump of 23-2 [7.06m]. In the final individual event of the meet, Jonathan Tijerina placed third in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:32.83.
In the final race of the day, Baylor's women's 4x400-meter relay team placed third. Kiana Hawn, Williams, Kehri Jones and Rhone ran a season-best time of 3:41.79 to earn the final points of the meet.

18 - the number of personal-bests Baylor had on Saturday at the Texas A&M Aggie Invitational.
TOP QUOTE #1
"Overall, we had athletes with good performances across the board. We did what we needed to do today by making ourselves a better national team. We have some athletes that need to keep stepping up to get us ready for conference. For the most part we stayed healthy and got ready for a big test next week. We had athletes move up on the conference list and the national list, plus 18 personal-bests, which is pretty solid." - head coach Todd Harbour on the meet
WHAT'S NEXT
Baylor will compete in its final regular season competition of the indoor season with a trip to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Tyson Invitational, Feb. 13-14. Select distance runners will go to the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa, on the same days.
