THE RUNDOWN
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Nina Davis scored 15 of her 20 points in the second half, helping third-ranked Baylor beat Texas 70-68 on Sunday for its 21st straight victory.
Davis also blocked a driving shot by Brooke McCarty just before the final buzzer to preserve the victory.
Guard Niya Johnson added 17 points for Baylor (22-1 11-0 Big 12), one more than forward Imani Wright. Center Kelsey Lang led Texas with 20 and 11 rebounds. Guard Brady Sanders scored 14.
Davis grabbed an offensive rebound and made a put-back with 3:55 remaining to give Baylor a nine-point lead.
But Texas (15-7, 4-7 Big) closed in on the Lady Bears with back-to-back 3-pointers by McCarty and Sanders, the latter cutting the deficit to four with 1:17 remaining.
Then Johnson turned the ball over, leading to a short bank shot by Texas' Brianna Taylor that left Baylor leading by two points.
Texas converted just 3 of its first 16 shots and trailed by 10 points midway through the first half. The Longhorns responded with an 8-0 push, eventually pulling even.
But Wright made a mid-range jump shot and a pair of free throws during the final minute of the half, and Baylor took a 38-32 lead at the break. Wright scored 13 points in the half, three more than he average for an entire game.
Texas never caught up to Baylor again but remained close enough to have a chance to win thanks largely to Lang, a 6-foot-5 sophomore.
