Women's Tennis Tallies Pair Of Sunday Shutouts

THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas -
The sixth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team (8-0) recorded two more shutout victories Sunday with wins against No. 63 Maryland, 4-0, and Prairie View A&M, 7-0, at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.

MATCH 1
Baylor's day against Maryland (2-3) actually started with a loss in doubles as Theresa Van Zyl and Leolia JeanJean dropped a 6-4 decision on court three. However, Baylor's No. 1 and 2 doubles teams wrapped up victories moments later. First, Ema Burgic and Kelley Anderson took care of Welma Luus and Alexandra Stanova, 6-4, at the top lineup, while Kiah Generette and Rachael James-Baker carded a 6-3 victory over Kristina Hovsepyan and Ekaterina Tour on court two to clinch the point.

In singles play, Baylor kept the momentum rolling as the 101st-ranked James-Baker cruised past Hovsepyan, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 4 spot and Generette make quick work of Nataliya Bredikhina, 6-0, 6-2, at the No. 2 position.

To clinch the match, No. 72 Burgic disposed of Stanova, 6-3, 6-2, at the top of the lineup.

With the contest decided, the other three singles matches were abandoned.

MATCH 2
To close out the day, Baylor dominated Prairie View A&M (2-7) for a 7-0 victory.

The Lady Bears won the doubles point as Anderson and Kely Putri rolled to a 6-0 victory at the No. 3 spot. Van Zyl and JeanJean claimed the point with their own 6-0 triumph on court two.

In singles play, the 101st-ranked James-Baker wasted no time as she rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory on court three. The 72nd-ranked Burgic also produced a 6-0, 6-0 win at the top of the lineup to put BU up 3-0. To claim the victory, the 73rd-ranked Anderson secured a 6-0, 6-2 victory on court two.

With the match decided, Van Zyl (6-0, 6-0), JeanJean (6-1, 6-0) and Putri (6-2, 6-1) each picked up victories on courts five, four and six, respectively.
