IRVING, Texas - Baylor junior forward Rico Gathers has been voted Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the second time in the last three weeks, as announced Monday by the league office.

Gathers was previously named Big 12 Player of the Week on Jan. 26, when he shared the award with Kansas State's Nino Williams. This marks the fourth time this season a Baylor player has been honored, with Johnathan Motley and Lester Medford named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Dec. 8 and Dec. 29, respectively.

The LaPlace, La., native averaged a double-double with 15.5 points and 17.0 rebounds per game as Baylor recorded wins over TCU and at No. 12 West Virginia. The junior forward was a monster on the glass, accounting for 40 percent of his team's rebounds with 17 in each game, giving him seven outings with 15 or more boards this season. He made 10-of-18 (.556) shots from the field and also had four blocks and three steals. Gathers also led BU in scoring in both contests as the Bears extended their win streak to three games, with each victory by at least 18 points, including two victories over ranked opponents.

Gathers posted his 11th and 12th double-doubles of the season, giving him five more than any other Big 12 player. He currently ranks second nationally in both total rebounds per game (12.5) and offensive rebounds per game (5.5), while ranking 14th nationally with 7.0 defensive boards per contest.

Gathers is the seventh player in program history to win the award multiple times in the same season, joining Curtis Jerrells (2008), Kevin Rogers (2008), LaceDarius Dunn (2010), Perry Jones III (2012), Pierre Jackson (2013) and Cory Jefferson (2014).

No. 16 Baylor returns to action with a pair of conference games against ranked opponents this week. The Bears host No. 21 Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. CT Monday and travel to No. 8 Kansas for a noon game on Saturday. Monday's game will air on ESPNU and Saturday's game will be televised on CBS.
