WACO, Texas - The eighth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team will open Big 12 play by traveling to No. 10 Oklahoma State Friday and then playing at No. 23 Oklahoma Sunday.
BU faces the Cowgirls at 5 p.m. CT to start the weekend at the Greenwood Tennis Center, before traveling to the Headington Family Tennis Center to take on the Sooners at noon Sunday.
Baylor (12-3) owns a 3-2 record on the road, but took down No. 33 Northwestern and No. 19 Ohio State in its last two road matches. The Lady Bears did fall in their last match, losing for the first time at home, 4-3 to No. 12 UCLA Saturday.
Baylor boasts four players ranked in singles. Ema Burgic (9-3) leads the way at No. 22. She is followed closely by No. 31 Blair Shankle (7-1), Kiah Generette (9-2) at No. 75 and finally No. 82 Rachel James-Baker (6-4). BU also has the No. 10 ranked doubles team in Burgic and Shankle, who are 6-2 in dual-match play.
Oklahoma State (12-2) is 7-0 at home and has won six straight matches, including the last four by 4-0 scores. The Cowgirls have three ranked singles players in No. 13 Viktoriya Lushkova, No. 78 Kelsey Laurente and No. 87 Katarina Adamovic. OSU also boasts two ranked doubles tandems in Lushkova and Laurente at No. 7 and Vladica Babic and Adamovic at No. 57.
BU leads the all-time series against Oklahoma State, 19-5, and 13-1 under Scrivano.
Oklahoma (11-2, 1-0) recorded a 6-1 victory over No. 31 New Mexico in its last match and already logged a 4-2 victory against Iowa State to open its conference slate. The Sooners are led by Lily Mzazaki, who has a 10-2 record at the No. 1 spot.
The Bears have won 12 straight matches over the Sooners to lead the all-time series 18-2 and have a 14-2 series advantage under Scrivano.
In Big 12 openers, Baylor is 9-3 under Scrivano and 14-4 since the league's inception. BU is 116-10 in Big 12 matches under Scrivano. The Bears have won nine of the last 10 Big 12 regular season titles, including two straight.
Earlier this spring, Big 12 coaches selected Baylor for the third time in four years to win the regular season crown. However, the Cowgirls were picked second and Oklahoma was selected sixth.
The Lady Bears have won 15 straight Big 12 regular season matches and have not lost a conference match since March 27, 2013.
