THE RUNDOWN
STILLWATER, Okla. - In its Big 12 opener, the eighth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team recorded a 4-0 shutout victory over No. 10 Oklahoma State Friday at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
In a match that was played indoors due to inclement weather, Baylor (13-3, 1-0) rolled past Oklahoma State (12-3, 0-1) by winning doubles and getting singles victories at courts two, four and five.
To hand the Cowgirls their first home loss, BU opened the match by capturing the doubles point. First, Leolia JeanJean and Kelley Anderson upset 57th-ranked Katarine Adamovic and Vladica Babic, 6-2, on court two. OSU answered back as Kiah Generette and Theresa Van Zyl fell to Carla Tur Mari and Maria Alvarez, 6-2, at the bottom of the lineup.
With each team having won one doubles match, the attention turned to court one where OSU led Baylor 5-4. The 10th-ranked duo of Ema Burgic and Blair Shankle then rolled to three straight game wins to upset No. 7 Viktoriya Lushkova and Kelsey Laurente, 7-5, to clinch the point.
In singles action, Baylor lost only one first set and secured straight set victories on court two, four and five to claim the match.
First, Kelley Anderson dispatched of Tur Mari, 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 5 spot. Next, JeanJean blasted past Babic, 6-4, 6-2, on court four.
The 31st-ranked Shankle closed out the match for BU by downing No. 78 Kelsey Laurente, 6-4, 6-0, at the No. 2 position.
