WACO, Texas - For the third straight-match, the sixth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team beat a top-25 opponent, dropping No. 14 Miami, 4-2, Tuesday at the Hurd Tennis Center.
Playing for the first time at its outdoor facility in 2015, Baylor (15-3) picked up a win in doubles and then got victories in singles on courts three, four and six to post the win over Miami (9-3).
The Bears started off doubles with the upset of the day as the unranked pairing of Kelley Anderson and Leolia JeanJean blasted past the 19th-ranked duo of Monique Albuquerque and Clementina Riobueno, 6-1, on court two.
BU clinched the point with Theresa Van Zyl and Rachael James-Baker securing a 6-4 triumph over Sinead Lohan and Wendy Zhang at the No. 3 spot.
In singles action, Van Zyl wasted no time in pushing BU's lead to 2-0, cruising over Albuquerque, 6-1, 6-1, at the bottom of the lineup.
JeanJean raised the Baylor lead to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 thrashing of Yolimar Ogando at the No. 4 position.
However, Miami fired back moments later as Anderson's upset bid on court five against 63rd-ranked Riobueno came up short, 6-2, 6-3.
The Hurricanes pulled within one team point of the Bears when the 31st-ranked Blair Shankle had her five-match win streak snapped with a 6-3, 6-3 loss against No. 7 Stephanie Wagner at the No. 2 spot.
The 75th-ranked Kiah Generette provided the clincher for BU with a 6-4, 6-4 victory against No. 108 Lina Lileikite on court three.
With the match decided, Ema Burgic's match at No. 1 singles was stopped.
