WACO, Texas - The sixth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team remained perfect in Big 12 action by topping No. 21 TCU, 4-1, at the Hurd Tennis Center Sunday.
Baylor improved to 16-4 and 3-0 in conference action, while TCU fell to 10-6 overall and 3-1 in league play.
The Lady Bears dropped the doubles point to start the match. On court two, Rachael James-Baker and Kelley Anderson opened the day with a 6-2 victory over Palina Dubavets and Alexis Pereira. However, Kiah Generette and Theresa Van Zyl fell to Simona Parajova and Sofiko Kadzhaya 6-3. Similarly, the 10th-ranked Ema Burgic and Blair Shankle lost to No. 38 Stefanie Tan and Seda Arantekin on court one 6-4 to give the Horned Frogs a 1-0 lead.
TCU would not score another point. The bottom of the lineup came through for BU in singles play.
Van Zyl (9-3) made quick work of Pereira on court six by a score of 6-3, 6-3 to even up the match. Next, Anderson (6-3) topped Arantekin 6-2, 6-4 on court five. Then, James-Baker (7-4) defeated Dubavets 7-5, 6-4 after coming back from a 2-5 deficit in the first set. Finally, Shankle (11-2) beat Kadzhaya 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) in a tiebreak on court three to clinch the match for Baylor. '
