KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Baylor men's basketball student-athletes Rico Gathers and Kenny Chery were named to the NABC All-District 8 team, as announced Friday by the NABC.

Gathers and Chery were both first-time honorees. It's the 12th time since 1950 and the fourth time in the last six seasons that Baylor has had multiple players honored on the NABC All-District Teams.

Gathers leads the Big 12 with a Baylor school-record 394 rebounds, 122 more than any other league player. He also leads the league with 17 double-doubles, which are twice as many as anyone else in the league, 164 offensive rebounds and 230 defensive rebounds. He ranks fourth nationally with 11.6 rebounds per game, and with 11.6 points per game, he was one of two high-major players nationally to average a double-double this season.

Chery averaged 11.3 points, 4.1 assists and 3.1 rebounds in a team-high 32.4 minutes per game. He ranks fourth in the Big 12 in minutes, fourth in assists, eighth in 3-pointers made, 11th in steals, ninth in assist-to-turnover ratio and 17th in scoring. His scoring average rose to 12.4 points per game in conference play, good for 11th in the league.

Gathers was joined on the District 8 First Team by Oklahoma's Buddy Hield, Iowa State's Georges Niang, Kansas' Perry Ellis and West Virginia's Juwan Staten. Chery was on the second team with Oklahoma State's Le'Bryan Nash and Phil Forte, Kansas' Frank Mason and Iowa State's Monte Morris.

Baylor has now placed 11 players on NABC All-District Teams in the last eight seasons, with 2014 the only year when BU didn't have an honoree. Gathers is the fourth player in the Scott Drew era to earn first-team recognition from the NABC, joining Curtis Jerrells (2008), LaceDarius Dunn (2011) and Pierre Jackson (2013).
