THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas -
The seventh-ranked Baylor women's tennis team broke a two-match losing streak by shutting out No. 36 Texas, 4-0, Saturday at the Hurd Tennis Center.

Baylor raised its record to 20-6 overall and 6-1 in Big 12 play. The Bears are 12-2 in home matches and 14-6 against ranked foes, while Texas fell to 8-10 overall and 4-3 in Big 12 action.

The Bears opened the day with Blair Shankle and Kiah Generette recording a 6-1 triumph over Neda Koprcina and Ratinika Batra on court 3 in doubles.

However, Baylor was trailing 4-2 at both the No. 1 and 2 doubles spots. On court one, Ema Burgic and Theresa Van Zyl, playing together for the first time, had traded breaks with Breaunna Addison and Lina Padegimaite through the first five games of the match, before the UT pairing got a hold for the 4-2 advantage.

From that point, BU held twice and the Horns got a hold to take the match to 5-4 with UT serving for the contest. However, Baylor would get two breaks and a hold to win the next three games and take the match and the doubles point, 7-5.

In singles action, Baylor again started off shaky, except for on court six.

Kelley Anderson cruised to a 6-2, 6-4, victory over Danielle Wagland to quickly give BU the 2-0 edge.

Aside from that result, the 85th-ranked Generette was trailing 5-3 on court, before rebounding to win seven straight games for a 7-5 first set victory and a 3-0 advantage in the second set over Koprcina.

Meanwhile on court three, the 30th-ranked Shankle was in a battle with Batra, but held for a 7-5 win in the first set.

Both Generette and Shankle went on to have easier second sets. First, Generette finished off Koprcina, 7-5, 6-3 for the 3-0 BU advantage. Shortly thereafter, Shankle disposed of Batra, 7-5, 6-4, to clinch the shutout for the Bears.
