THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas -
The eighth-ranked Baylor women's tennis team opened its season-ending homestand by blanking No. 72 Kansas, 4-0, Friday.

The doubles portion of the match was played at the Hurd Tennis Center, before the threat of rain forced the singles action to the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.

Baylor raised its record to 21-6 overall and 7-1 in Big 12 play with the win. The Bears are now 13-2 in home matches and 15-6 against ranked foes. Kansas fell to 8-13 and 4-4 in Big 12 play with the loss.

BU began the match with Blair Shankle and Kiah Generette recording a 6-0 shutout against Maria Jose Cardona and Alexis Czapinski on court 3 in doubles.

It took a little more time, but eventually Leolia JeanJean and Kely Putri powered past Rachel McNeely and Summer Collins, 6-2, at the No. 2 spot to give BU the doubles point.

In singles action, Baylor didn't mind the venue change as the Bears won five of six first sets in singles, which allowed Theresa Van Zyl, JeanJean and Shankle to breeze to straight set victories.

First, Van Zyl carded a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Lauren Pickens on court five. Shortly thereafter, the 104th-ranked JeanJean raced past Czapinski, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 4 spot.

To clinch the match, the 33rd-ranked Shankle bested Summer Collins, 6-2, 6-3, on court three.
