No. 16 Softball Settles for Split with Iowa State

WACO, Texas - The No. 16-ranked Baylor Bears settled for a doubleheader split with Iowa State in the first two games of a Big 12 series Saturday at Getterman Stadium. Heather Stearns pitched a five-hit shutout in a 2-0 win in game one for BU, before Stacy Roggentien solved the Bears' offense in game two in a 4-1 win for ISU.
Stearns stuck out eight and didn't walk a hitter in game one. Baylor (33-12, 7-4) scored runs as Lindsey Cargill advanced two bases on a foul fly in the first inning, and Jordan Strickland had an RBI single in the sixth.
In game two, Baylor was 1-for-16 at the plate with runners on base, the Bears left 10 runners on base in the game, and left the bases loaded in the fourth and seventh innings.
Stearns pitched well, but picked up the loss in game two; she struck out six in 5.1 innings of work and moved to 15-9 on the year after the split. ISU's (23-22, 2-9) Stacy Roggentien started and re-entered finishing with her 10th win of the season (10-6), and she scattered seven hits in 6.1 innings of work.
HIGHLIGHTS
? Heather Stearns pitched her fourth shutout of the season and ninth of her career in game one. She struck out eight and didn't walk a hitter.
? Stearns' ninth career shutout gave her sole possession of seventh place all-time on the BU career shutouts list.
? Shelby Friudenberg hit her 15th home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth inning in the game two loss. She is now tied for the third-best single-season home run total in school history with Chelsi Lake (15, 2005) and Kelly Osburn (15, 2006).
? Friudenberg extended her on-base streak to eight games with a walk in game one and a home run in game two.
? Glenn Moore picked up his 599th career win as Baylor's head coach - he is 599-299 in 14-plus seasons at the helm of the program. Moore has 738 career wins as a college head coach.
? Friudenberg's two-hit performance in game two was the 15th multiple-hit game of the season for the freshman.
? Jordan Strickland had two hits in game two to record her seventh multiple-hit game of her career and 44th of her career.

11 - Iowa State snapped an 11-game losing skid to Baylor with the win in game two, and it was the Cyclones' first win in Waco since March 22, 2008 (2-1).

Baylor closes the Big 12 series with Iowa State Sunday at Noon, and the game will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest with John Morris and Holly Holl on the play-by-play and color commentary, respectively.
