June 27, 2015 EUGENE, Ore. â '¬" Baylor track and field senior Rachel Johnson placed ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the USATF Outdoor Championships Saturday at Hayward Field.
Running to be one of the top-three finishers, who make Team USA for the IAAF World Championships, Johnson was among the top-six runners throughout the race, before fading down the stretch to finish ninth in 9:53.34.
Last year, Johnson was fifth in the steeplechase at the meet with a time of 9:41.56
After qualifying to represent the United States in the 100-meter dash Friday, Trayvon Bromell did not show for the first round of the 200-meter dash. He will focus on the 100-meters at the IAAF World Championships and is a member of the United States' 4x100-meter relay pool.
OTHER NOTABLES
• Former Baylor All-American Tiffany Townsend was the final qualifier in the 200-meter dash to the semifinals as she ran a 23.01 in the prelims. She will run in semifinals on Sunday.
WHAT'S NEXT
Saturday's action concluded Baylor's participation in the USA Track & Field Championships. Bromell will represent BU at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China in late August.
