WACO, Texas - The Baylor track and field team begins the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships with 15 student-athletes competing in 13 events over the course of the four-day event, Wednesday through Saturday, at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
STORYLINES
Baylor will have 13 entries made up of 15 student-athletes at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. The 20th-ranked women have six entries in six individual events, while the No. 14 men have seven total (5 individuals, 2 relays).

Baylor sophomore Trayvon Bromell qualified in three events at the NCAA €ˆWest Preliminary Rounds. He will look to repeat as 100-meter champion, while trying to earn outdoor All-American honors in the 200 meters and the 4x100 relay for the first time.

Baylor also has two other athletes, who will compete in two events, including George Caddick (400, 4x400) and Brandon Moore (800, 4x400).

Five members of Baylor's contingent are school record holders, including Bromell in the 100-meters (9.90), Rachel Johnson in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:41.56), Felix Obi in the triple jump (53-3.5 [16.24m]), Annie Rhodes in the pole vault (14-4.5 [4.38m]) and Olicia Williams in the 800 meters (2:02.26).

The men have their two relay teams qualified for the NCAA Championships for a sixth straight year. BU's men's 4x1 team has qualified for nationals for six straight years, while the 4x4-crew has been to every NCAA €ˆChampionships since 1980.

Baylor's group of 15 student-athletes, plus three relay alternates includes five former outdoor All-Americans, including Bromell (2014, 100m), Caddick (2014, 4x400), Isaiah Duke (2013, 4x400), Rachel Johnson (2014, 3,000-steeple) and Brianna Richardson (2014, triple jump).

Baylor has three events in which it has a male and female athlete competing, including the 400 (Caddick & Raena Rhone), the 800 (Moore & Williams) and the triple jump (Obi & Richardson).

Obi won the 2014 NCAA €ˆIndoor triple jump title, but an injury forced him to miss last year's outdoor season. He will be competing in his first national outdoor competition.

Local products Cion Hicks (Copperas Cove, Texas/shot put) and Rhodes (Waco, Texas/pole vault) will each be competing in their first NCAA €ˆOutdoor Championships. Hicks' third throw at the West Preliminary Championships moved her from 17th up to eighth for the trip to Eugene. Rhodes had to advance in a jump-off, after being tied for the 12th qualifying spot in Austin.
