MBB Splits Doubleheader vs. Carleton

THE RUNDOWN
OTTAWA, Canada -- Baylor men's basketball split a doubleheader against Carleton University on Thursday at CU's Ravens' Nest. The Bears won the morning game 80-78 and dropped the nightcap 79-73, finishing their exhibition trip to Canada with a 3-1 record.
Sophomore Johnathan Motley had a team-high 18 points and six rebounds in the morning game, marking the third straight game he led the Bears in scoring. Al Freeman had 17 points on a perfect 8-of-8 from the field, along with five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Terry Maston contributed a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards in 24 minutes, and Taurean Prince added 12 points in 21 minutes. Freeman and Jake Lindsey tied for the team lead with three assists, and Ishmail Wainright had a game-high three steals.
Freeman led the Bears with 13 points in the back-and-forth night game. The teams were tied 17-17 after the first quarter, then Carleton took a four-point halftime lead before the Bears came back to regain the lead by one point heading to the fourth. Maston added 11 points, while Motley and Lester Medford contributed 10 points apiece. Jo Acuil had four blocks in only six minutes played, while Freeman had team-highs with four steals and three assists.
HIGHLIGHTS
• Baylor won the morning game despite trailing by five points after the first quarter, two points at halftime and four points entering the fourth quarter. BU out-scored Carleton 24-18 in the fourth.
• BU trailed by four at halftime of the night game, but the Bears out-scored the Ravens 23-18 in the third.
• Motley averaged a team-high 18.0 points per game during the four-game trip.
• Freeman posted 11.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game on the trip.
• Wainright averaged 8.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.5 steals during the trip.
• Maston averaged 9.0 points and 7.3 rebounds over the four games.
• Prince averaged 10.0 points, 2.5 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game.
STAT OF THE DAY
20 -- the number of steals Baylor had over the two games, with 12 in the morning game and eight in the finale. The Bears averaged 10.5 steals per game as a team during the four-game trip.
