THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas â '¬" Baylor soccer lost 2-1 in double overtime to South Florida in its season opener Friday evening at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field. The Bears (0-1) had plenty of chances against the Bulls (1-0) but were only able to convert one.
A very competitive match that had the feel of a postseason type of environment really got going near the 60th minute. In the 62nd minute, USF's Cristina Ferrall had the ball near the top of the box in a crowd of players, turned and fired a laser that was unaffected by the traffic and went past Baylor goalkeeper Rebecca Gartner.
BU did not waste much time answering as Ashley York served up a cross from the left side of the box in the 68th minute and Amanda Hoglund was there to get a foot on it in traffic for the equalizer. From there, the teams battled hard for possessions and Baylor missed on a few good scoring chances.
In the second overtime and 103rd minute, USF's Olivia Chance had the ball in the left side of the box, got Gartner caught in the middle of committing to attack the ball or stay back to play the shot and was able to sneak the golden goal past.

QUOTE OF THE GAME
"Nobody likes to lose; nobody wants to walk off the field without the win. They are disappointed not walking off with a victory tonight because they are super-competitors. We know we have some things we can learn from. They are not walking off like, 'season is done, Coach,' they are pumped. They see how good they can be and I saw a lot of potential in them. I think they are fired up and ready to recover for Monday night against another really good team." â '¬" Head Coach Paul Jobson
