WACO, Texas â '¬" Baylor's cross country teams will open the 2015 season by hosting the annual Bear Twilight Invitational at the Heart of Texas Soccer Complex Tuesday.

The race is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. with the women's 4,000-meter loop, followed shortly after by the men's 6,000-meter loop. The course, at the HOT Soccer Complex, is located on the northwest side of Lake Waco near the Waco Regional Airport at 6101 Airport Road, Waco, Texas, 76708.

It's the 13th-straight year, the Bears will open the season at home.

Baylor's teams, ranked fourth in the region on the women's side and 11th on the men's, will host men's and women's squads from Incarnate Word, North Texas, TCU and UT-Arlington as well as the SMU women.

"I think physically we're going to be fine," head coach Todd Harbour said. "We've got the talent. We lost Rachel Johnson and Mariah Kelly, who brought a toughness to the group that we had been missing for a couple years. We don't want to go backwards. This group has accepted the challenge and they're ready for it."

Despite losing All-American Rachel Johnson and all-region performer Mariah Kelly to graduation, the women's team brings back all-region performers Alex Davis and Maggie Montoya. Both of those athletes scored for the Lady Bears at the NCAA Championships in 2014.

Three others members of BU's championship group also return with Peyton Thomas, Madie Zimmerman and Ann-Marie Dunlap. Transfers Charlotte Myers (Miami [OH]) and Chelsea Orr (Washington) could help the BU women replace Johnson and Kelly.

On the men's side, former All-Big 12 track performers Derwin Graham and Jonathan Tijerina were lost to graduation, but veterans Matt Galvin, JR Hardy, Kyle Scanlan and Chris McElroy return. Meanwhile, after a standout freshman season Eric Anderson looks to build on 2014. Junior transfer Matt League (Northern Arizona), who ran for the Bears in track will give BU even more depth.

"They're looking really good," assistant head coach Jon Capron said. "The mix is working very nicely. I'll know a lot more after this meet on Tuesday. But I'm really pleased with where we're at right now. I've got a really good mix of young talent and old experience."

Last year at the Bear Twilight, the BU women won the event for a third consecutive year with three runners in the top seven finishers. Davis placed third in 2014 and second in 2013. On the men's side, the Bears have been third for the past two seasons with Anderson taking fifth and Galvin placing seventh last year.

The Bear Twilight is the first of nine events on BU's 2015 schedule, but the only home meet of the season. Both the men and women will have the weekend off, before taking part in the Ken Garland Invitational on Sept. 12 in Denton, Texas.
