Volleyball Slips to Cleveland State in Four Sets

THE RUNDOWN
DAYTON, Ohio –
After cruising through a first set win, the Bears (6-2) couldn&#8217;t find an answer to the Vikings (8-2), as Cleveland State swept the final three sets posting a 20-25, 31-29, 27-25, 25-20 victory in the second day of the Dayton Invitational.

In the first set, the Bears started strong, jumping out to a 7-2 lead that they were able to maintain to pick up the first set point of the match.

As the match progressed, the Vikings adjusted to the Baylor attack, sneaking by with narrow two-point wins in the second and third sets.

The Bears were just a point away from closing out the third set, up 24-21 and serving for the set, but Cleveland State pieced together a 7-1 run to close out the set 27-25.

The fourth set was in gridlock through most of the set, with both squads tied up at 15-15. The Vikings rattled off a 7-0 run, proving to be too much for the Bears to overcome.

HIGHLIGHTS
&#8226; The Bears had three with double-digit kills: Shelly Fanning (11), Tola Itiola (11), and Andie Malloy (10).

&#8226; Itiola&#8217;s 11 kills set a new season high, surpassing her previous mark of 10 kills.

&#8226; Fanning posted a season-high 7 blocks in the match.

&#8226; Freshman Ashley Fritcher scored her first collegiate service ace.

&#8226; The loss was the first neutral site loss of the season for the Bears.
