THE RUNDOWN
DENTON, Texas -- With
Eric Anderson leading the charge for a second-straight race, Baylor's men's cross country team finished third at the Ken Garland Invitational Saturday at the Eagle Point Cross Country Course. Meanwhile, the BU women were sixth in the meet hosted by the University of North Texas.
Anderson, a sophomore, was 10th individually by covering the four-mile course in 19:53.21. Senior JR Hardy, who was running his first event of the year was only two spots back at 12th in 19:58.98. Jordan West (16th, 20:08.03), Matt League (18th, 20:18.94) and Matt Galvin (19th, 20:20.48) gave BU all five of its scoring runners in the top 20. West and Galvin were also running in their first races of the year.
On the women's side, Aubree Miller led the charge with a 29th-place showing by running the 5,000-meter course in 19:24.56. Rachel Covey was the next Bear to cross the finish line with a 35th-place finish in 19:30.9.
HIGHLIGHTS
• There were seven men's teams (Baylor, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi College, North Texas, Oklahoma, Tarleton State and TCU) and nine women's teams (Baylor, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi College, North Texas, Oklahoma, SMU, Southeastern Oklahoma, Tarleton State, TCU and Wiley) at the meet.
•The women's total point score was 162, while the men scored 75 total points.
•The men finished 33 points off second-place Oklahoma (42) and beat Tarleton State (92) by 17 points. • The women were 19 points behind fifth-place Tarleton State (143) and 52 points ahead of seventh-place Mississippi College (214).
• The women's other scoring runners were Leila Rohde (41st, 19:48.3), Catherine Zabilski (48th, 20:13.3) and Lexi Reamer (50th, 20:18.3).
•Baylor women's team didn't run most of their top runners, including Maggie Montoya, Alex Davis, Chelsea Orr, Peyton Thomas and Maddie Zimmerman.
