
Volleyball Sweeps Coppin State

WACO, Texas â '¬"- Baylor volleyball took its first sweep of the season as the Bears downed Coppin State, 25-10, 25-20, 25-12, at the Ferrell Center Saturday morning. It is the first three-set win for the Bears this season; all other victories have been won in five sets.
Baylor took no time to take control of the game and built a 17-5 lead after an Ashley Fritcher cross-court kill. Adrien Richburg provided a kill out of the middle to give Baylor a 25-10 first-set win. The Bears struggled to start the second set and Coppin State took a 6-4 lead. The Bears pulled together a 5-0 run to lead 10-7 and force a Coppin State timeout. An ace by Jana Brusek ended the rally as the Bears took a 25-20 second-set win and gave Baylor a comfortable 2-0 lead heading into the break.
Baylor used a .667 attack effort and only committed one attack error as the Bears cruised to a 25-12 third-set victory. In the final set Baylor had a match-high 15 kills.
HIGHLIGHTS
• Baylor had five service aces against the Eagles and gave up none.
• The underclassmen accounted for 26 of 42 Baylor kills: Ashley Fritcher led the team with 10, Shelly Fanning had seven, Amanda Lesikar added six and Jordan Vail contributed three.
• Jana Brusek finished with a match-high nine digs in the three-set win.
• The Bears used a balanced effort at the setting position: Morgan Reed led with 18 assists, and Amy Rosenbaum contributed 14.
• Jordan Vail hit a perfect 1.000 for three kills on three attempts. Ashley Fritcher had a .769 attack effort with no errors (10-for-13).
