BAYLOR POSTGAME QUOTES
Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On West Virginia's Defenseà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Hey, guys, look, nobody in the league is going to guard you better than [West Virginia head coach] Mike Carey's teams. They just get after you and they have size and strength and that was big-girl basketball out there tonight."
On Kristy Wallace's big performance at the end of the gameà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I thought [Kristy] Wallace had two big shots, but probably the biggest thing she did was she got a rebound down on the other end, late when she was off balance, and the girl was bigger than her. She just made sure that girl didn't get it and she got it. Those things help your team grow and win basketball games."
On what the team learned from this gameà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"We just learned that we are getting better. Against good teams that play good defense, you have to be able to execute, you have to be able to defend, and you have to be able to rebound. I just thought we did some of that tonight. Late, it must have been two or two-and-a-half minutes left, we gave up two offensive rebounds that almost cost us the game. Those things matter. It was good to have a win against a team that played extremely well."
On Nina Davis not scoring double figures for second straight gameà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Guys, Nina [Davis] may never score 20 again if we are all playing well. That's what good teams do. Nina just wants to win. I can't fix anything for Nina. Everybody goes through games and spurts of their career where they seem to be falling, but you have to remember the first person they look at on the scouting report is how are we going to guard Nina Davis. That's the first thing they do. She hasn't had a lot of that type of focus in her career."
Junior Khadijiah Cave
On her roll late in the gameà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"We knew coming in that they were going to overplay the guards and try to deny the guards as much as they could. I saw that I was open, Niya [Johnson] saw that I was open so she just threw in a quick pass and I laid it up. I just tried to present myself when they were playing tight on the guards."
Junior Alexis Jones
On her game tonightà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Well, I just was open and I was knocking down shots in this game. I'm just trying to stay focused and get these wins like were are supposed to be doing."
On getting comfortable in Baylor's Systemà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I feel like I'm getting more comfortable and getting my feel back for the game, too, at the same time. Really, it's all about staying focused and everybody on the team right now is really focused and that's why we are playing so well right now."
WVU POSTGAME QUOTES
WVU Head Coach Mike Carey
Opening statementà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Good game. I think the difference in the game was that they executed when the score was tied with about three minutes to go ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" we didn't. We broke down a couple of times defensively, and I thought we had the wrong people taking the shots in the last three minutes. That's my fault. We have to get it in the hands of people who need to take the shots, but I thought it was a good game. Both teams battled. Both teams played hard."
On fighting against fourth-ranked Baylorà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"We have 11 new players that weren't on this basketball team out of 14 last year. We have a lot of freshmen that were in there at the end of the game, and this type of game is good for them ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" on the road, great crowd. Hopefully we'll execute better next time from this situation."
On the second half executionà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"They would go up, we would battle back, they would go up ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" I give our girls a lot of credit. They kept fighting. Needless to say, we're a lot smaller than they are, so we kept fighting and rebounding. Three minutes to go, again, they executed and we didn't execute on both ends, and to me that was the difference in the game."
On halftime adjustmentsà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Not a lot. We knew who their shooters were. We knew we had to help off a certain number of players, and we had to rebound. We emphasized those things. We shot a three a couple of those possessions to get them off man-to-man, but without a doubt Bria [Holmes] is our leader. We normally shoot a lot better from the three. We didn't get a lot of scoring in the paint from our centers, and that hurt us."
Senior Bria Holmes
On matching up against the Baylor guardsà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"That's the toughest I've seen all season with somebody guarding me. It was kind of tough, but I just kept playing and tried to get open to try and help my team."
