BAYLOR POSTGAME QUOTES
Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
Opening statementà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Well, there are probably a couple of areas that I was pleased in and then the rest of the game ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" we were not very good tonight. We turned the basketball over entirely too much. We did not play inspired for whatever reason. I don't know if it is just the emotional high coming off of the Iowa State win. We need to get back to where we were. Keeping them 1-for-13 from the three is good. We held them to 24 percent shooting for the game, but they kept hanging around because we kept turning it over. It was not forced turnovers; it was just sloppy play. I thought the foul line in the first half was good for us and I thought we put them at the foul line too much in the second half."
On the night as a wholeà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I think it probably was a lack of focus. I just think that sometimes players look at records. You try your best to make them understand that Texas Tech is not going to go away and they didn't go away. I thought Alexis Prince was a spark off of the bench. I thought she got some big rebounds for us and hit some big shots. It was a game that everyone got to play some minutes, so that's a positive, but you need to do better than you did tonight if you're going to go to West Virginia Saturday to win."
On turnoversà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It was just sloppy ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" not focusing, not catching passes and not looking at the defender. We gave them pass fakes and just threw it right in their hands. It was from point guards to post players. We shared the wealth in that regard tonight."
On West Virginiaà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I think it helps that we played them recently. It helps in preparing. You can show it to them on film, but if you have played them on that court they can get a better feel for it. I know that when they came here, they guarded us as well as anybody that we have played. They have good size all over the floor. They are physical. They are coming off of a loss tonight. It is another game on the road. We have won some big games on the road. We have to understand that we need to bring the same energy that we brought to Iowa State and Texas. You have to keep stealing those road victories."
Junior Nina Davis
On transition basketsà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I was just trying to get the team going ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" that is basically how we get most of our easy points. We were trying to get back to getting rebounds and getting out. We started playing their tempo and we wanted to get back to our tempo."
On turnoversà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Basically, we weren't focused. It wasn't anything that they were doing on defense. It's not like they were playing the passing lanes or putting on a lot of pressure. It just comes down to focus and it is something we cannot do when we are playing a good team."
Senior Niya Johnson
On tonight's gameà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"We had a lot of unforced turnovers and we need to get in the film room and discuss those turnovers. We need to fix it before Saturday comes with West Virginia. It was an ugly game as a whole, but we got the win, so I cannot complain."
On preparing for and playing an opponent with a lower recordà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It definitely affects you, but everyone is coming for Baylor. We just need to prepare and focus for every game like it's our last. "
TEXAS TECH POSTGAME QUOTES
Texas Tech Head Coach Candi Whitaker
On Baylor's reboundingà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"They're huge. That's a strength of theirs. You have to do the best you can to keep them off the glass and get the rebounds you can get. I thought we did a decent job of keeping them off the offensive glass, which is a big emphasis for us."
On forcing 21 turnoversà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I thought we did a good job of mixing it up between man and zone and causing some turnovers. They have a lot of weapons and eventually they're going to get some open looks. We gave up too many transition baskets, but for the most part, I thought we guarded fairly well in the first half."
On trouble shooting in the first quarterà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"We haven't shot the ball well in a while and it's hard to win when you don't make open shots."
Texas Tech Junior Ivonne CookTaylor
On finding her shot and taking her game to the next stepà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I think it's just mental. Just knowing it's going to go in and staying confident and putting time in to consistently make those shots."
On the point Baylor started to pull awayà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Maybe the start of the third. They went on a run and when we gave up transition layups that's when I felt they pulled away."
