Despite the momentum the end of the fall season created, Baylor head coach Ellen White recognizes that this meet is going to be tough, with both the horses and riders coming back from the Christmas break and little time to prepare or refocus.
"We've got the four-legged athletes and two-legged athletes," said White. "We don't get to practice over the break. The girls can go and ride their individual horses. But when we get back here, we only have this (three weeks) in the saddle. And you can't go fast and hard because the horses are not prepared for that."
The last time the Bears traveled to Auburn, the Tigers team earned the victory, 13-7. In this year's match-up, Baylor's western team and Auburn's hunt seat team will have the opportunity to lead their teams.
"Our western team has gotten a lot stronger," said White. "Auburn's hunt seat team has got a lot of new riders that they are just bringing in this semester, because they have been competing in the real world. From what we heard, they should be phenomenal on the hunt seat side. This is a meet were we will count on our western team to give us a boost," said White.
Not being able to ride their own horses and having a much colder weather against the Bears, the team knows this competition will serve them well as they prepare for the Big 12 Conference Championship and the NCEA Championship.
"Win, lose, or draw, we will find out a lot about our team, and about what we have for championships, because championships is a much more even playing field," said White.
