BAYLOR POSTGAME QUOTES
Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On improving from the gameà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"The two things that we have to improve on are turnovers. You can't turn the ball over like we did. And secondly, we have got to defend the 3-ball better. Twenty-two field goals made for them, 11 were 3s. Now, that's their offense. They didn't get many post touches. They don't play like that, or they didn't tonight. We've got to get better off the dribble on the perimeter. We've got to continue to get better in communicating when a post sets a screen. That is a very difficult offense for big girls to defend. I thought the big girls did okay. We've just got to keep them from penetrating so much."
On post play against Emporia Stateà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I believe championships are won when you get post touches whether they're good or not. We started our smaller post players. They're quicker. They're faster, and then we come in with two bigger post players. We've got a lot of weapons in there, and that could change from game to game depending on who we play. You can run a different offense with the group that starts, and then you can run a different offense when you come in with Kalani (Brown) and (Lauren) Cox. You've got to have post touches in order for those perimeter players to be better and to be able to hit open shots. That's just what I believe. You've just got to throw it in there."
On the freshmenà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"They're going to have good days and bad days. The thing about this team: the very first article written about our team was about the three freshmen; but what made the article so good was the upperclassmen were the ones bragging on the freshmen. It wasn't the coaches. It wasn't me. The message to them is it's amazing what can be accomplished when nobody cares who receives the credit. I get to coach a team that doesn't care. They want to contribute. They want to play. They want to help, but most importantly they want to win."
Freshman Lauren Cox
On playing her first game at Baylorà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It felt really good. We have been banging around with each other at practice and it felt good just to play another team. The atmosphere was really great. I have never really played in front of that many people before, so that was a lot of fun."
On playing with Kalani Brown and not against her in practiceà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Yeah, I usually have to guard Kalani in practice and that can be tough. It is nice to get out and play a different team."
On having to guard a motion offenseà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It can be pretty difficult just because they are smaller and quicker. They move around a lot. I guarded some perimeter players in high school, so I have had some experience with that."
Sophomore Beatrice Mompremier
On the message at halftimeà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It was just to come out and play harder. We wanted to defend the ball and rebound."
On the post-to-post passingà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"We work on that every time in practice, so it just came naturally."
