"Well we have been a second half team all tournament, but that one I guess took it to extremes. I thought first half Louisville pounded us on the glass and towards the end of it half to get a little rhythm. And in the second half we had the chance to get back and gain some points. We kept missing some easy shots. And then finally the guys stuck with it. That is why it always takes a team to win a tournament. We said we believe in our bench and they really came through and gave us a huge lift tonight. King (McClure) got us going with that spurt and from there Motley took over down the stretch. It is a must better feeling when you are winning."
"First of all, the turnovers did help. I thought we were more patient and got better looks in the second half. First half, we were a little rushed with the ball -- we missed shots and couldn't make a three, got some good looks. And that is day 3 of the tournament. I thought-- really fresh legs from King really got it going for us. It is just a game of momentum and when you have it, it is great and when you don't, it is not too fun."
"It takes a team to win. Especially on the last day when you have tired legs. Everyone has different moments. We felt with King, TJ, Jake -- they are all good players."
"We couldn't score for 20 minutes and then all of a sudden we were able to score 42 in the second half."
"We have been to every premier tournament there is -- I can tell you the hospitality and the kindness is second to none. Every team that is here, that is why all of them want to get back here and get in. I have never heard anybody say anything negative about the tournament besides it is hard to get wins. I guess you can't help us with that. We have to do that on our own."
"It is a great feeling. There is nothing better than winning the last game of the tournament. It makes the whole trip more enjoyable. It is a great experience. Outstanding coaches and outstanding tournament. No matter win or lose, it helps prepare you for the season."
Jonathan Motley
"I am thankful for my teammates for getting me in the right positions to score. I couldn't do it by myself. It takes a team to win. We played harder than them and we got the W."
King McClure
"A lot of times when teams are down like that, they break apart. We came together. At halftime we were in the locker room and we said we have been here before. We have been in situations like this. We came back and started chipping away and saw the lead go down. We started to believe in ourselves. We are coming together and we are all in."
LOUISVILLE POSTGAME QUOTES
Head Coach Rick Pitino
"We could not have played better basketball than the first half. That was a spectacular display. In the second half, seven straight times in a row we weren't in the wrong defense running down giving up easy baskets. That is a sign of fatigue from three days mentally and physically. We were sharp on our offensive screening, moving, cutting and we were literally walking around didn't even get a break -- walking around the second half and that is because of fatigue. And this loss is all me not the players. I've got to take this loss and I have to get some confidence in our bench."
"We played so hard in the first half and took a lot out of us three nights in a row. The only way we could win is if we tried to pressure them because half court they would beat us. We did a remarkable job. If Donovan played eight minutes less, he wouldn't have been walking around in the second half. He wouldn't have been in the wrong defense. You can't play this style and walk around like that."
"We are going to have a lot of games like this -- some we are going to win and others we will lose. We have to realize why we lost. I lost this game because I am afraid to substitute. I can't be. Three games in three nights is difficult especially for an inexperienced team. It is my fault we lost this championship. It is bitter, but we will learn from it and I will learn from it as a coach to play these guys whether I think they are good enough or not."
Donovan Mitchell
"It is tough to admit that you are tired, but at the end of the day, we didn't make the plays at the right time. Being lazy -- we can't have that. It is tough, but you have to step it up."
