BAYLOR POSTGAME QUOTES
Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
Opening statementà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"One of the ways to win the game was certainly not to put them on the foul line and we did just the opposite. We kept hand-checking them and fouling them. I think 10 of their 26 points at the half were from the line. We cleaned it up and made them work for a lot of shots. I thought our post players were dominant. Jones and Wallace were very unselfish and got the ball to them. I was concerned with the 12-day layoff and being slow and lethargic. We certainly were not at our best, but we have enough depth to get them in and get them out. Being able to get the freshmen valuable minutes will be very helpful later on."
On speeding up the gameà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Kansas State's style of play is much different than ours. They play a zone, they try to slow the game down and I felt like we were playing right into their hands. I just subbed some players and started pressing just to push the momentum. "
On reboundingà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Rebounding is one way that we should win games. We are big enough and athletic enough. We had 15 offensive boards in the first half. I would like to see us get 30. If you can do it in one half, you can do it in another. With all of the substitutions we started making some shots so we didn't get a lot of opportunities to get offensive boards in the second half. We should be a good rebounding team, just look at us."
On Alexis Prince's playà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"She's happy, she's healthy. She is at that point as a senior where she doesn't want to stop playing. You have to push her out of the gym. I love the way she is playing defense. It's just the way she is carrying herself. Her entire game offensively and defensively is as good as it has been since she has been here."
Senior Nina Davis
On team outlookà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"We have confidence in each other. We are focusing on playing together and getting better. Credit Kansas State, they are a great team that plays great defense. We came out ready to play after the break."
On mentalityà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I think when I was younger, I might have had an attitude or gotten down on myself, but I'm a senior now. I know that eventually my shot will fall or the and-one will fall. You have to keep playing regardless of what happened before."
Sophomore Kalani Brown
On tonight's gameà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I was just going to the offensive boards and being aggressive on both ends of the floor. Coming off of the 12-day layoff, I wanted to show that I was not out of shape."
KANSAS STATE POSTGAME QUOTES
Kansas State Head Coach Jeff Mittie
Opening statement à ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Well, I really thought early we were really getting to the free throw line off the bounce, and then I thought (Baylor) had better discipline after that. We kind of became a little stagnant at times. Then, I think just their physicality began to wear on us. That's not a five-minute deal. The physicality starts to wear on you. I think your training starts to rest a little bit at the offensive end. We had good movement early, but I thought we got fatigued at times. I think Baylor's one of the most physical teams in the country. They combine size with strength with athleticism, all of the above."
On Kalani Brown à ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"She's made great improvements from a year ago. She plays with much better leverage than a year ago. Like a lot of posts, you knew that both her and (Beatrice) Mompremier last year were put right in the fire right away and played a lot of minutes and games, and they would come back this year and make great improvements. Certainly, (Kalani) Brown I think had made tremendous improvements. We could not keep her off the glass, particularly in the first half."
On key takeaways à ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"There are areas where I feel like we didn't compete very hard in. That's what I'm concerned about right now - what we can and can't do. I thought we got off to a good start, but really we were off to a good enough start offensively where if we competed on the glass better, then we would have a five or six-point lead because we were playing well enough to do that early, but their offensive rebounds were killing us. We'll try to take what we did good tonight, and we've got to get back to work and be more efficient. We had a lot of unforced turnovers tonight. We had travels. We had things coming off the break that weren't good for us, and we've got to be better than that. To play our best and to play well in this league, we have to execute better than we're executing right now, so that's a concern of ours."
