BAYLOR POSTGAME QUOTES
Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On if this was as good as they've played this seasonà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I thought we were very focused and ready to play. I thought tonight their triangle-and-two slowed us down a little bit, but it wasn't like we weren't prepared for it. It was a game where our kids were ready and everything we saw from them defensively we had prepared for."
On Niya Johnson not getting enough credit for her impactà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"She gets a lot of credit from this old woman. I think she gets a lot of national credit. If you look at it, she's on all the lists, I guess the only thing she hasn't been is an All-American, like Nina [Davis]. I told you the only loss we've had all year was when she wasn't playing. That's the value of understanding that I am the coach on this floor and I'm going to put everybody in a position to look good."
On the momentum gained from four runs of eight or more pointsà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Well, the good part is depth. I can go as big as I need to go and I can go as athletic and small as I need to go and they are all playing with a lot of confidence right now. It just says that we have a lot of players that can play."
Freshman Justis Szczepanksi
On playing her most minutes this yearà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It's a blessing. When I got in I just tried to do whatever I could do to help the team out."
Sophomore Dekeiya Cohen
On if getting that many minutes was funà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It was definitely fun being back out there and doing whatever [Coach Mulkey] tells us to do."
KANSAS STATE POSTGAME QUOTES
Kansas State Head Coach Jeff Mittie
Opening statementà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"We were clearly beaten by a very talented Baylor team that played very well. I thought they played as well in some areas as we had ever seen from them. I thought they passed the ball well. [Niya] Johnson is a player that probably doesn't get enough credit. She's light years ahead of other players on the floor, in terms of understanding where the ball needs to go. Overall, I thought Baylor played well tonight."
On why Niya Johnson doesn't get enough credit for her impactà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"My take would be that you have to look deeper at her game than just scoring. Their only loss is without her, so I think that speaks volumes to her value to this team. I think she distributes the ball well and gets it where it needs to go."
On the Kansas State's offense early onà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I thought that early on we had some decent looks. We were 0-for-6. Four of the looks were good and two of them were rushed. We're a team that has to shoot the ball well to beat a team like Baylor. If we don't, it's very easy to fall into a deficit like we did. We have to have those components to beat a team like this that plays at such a high level. I thought Baylor played at a very high level tonight, for the most part. The game got a little sloppy late, but the first three quarters were played very well at a high level."
On Breanna Lewis' performanceà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"She was 4-for-9 early, but she didn't take bad shots. I thought they were pretty good looks, but Baylor had size in there and they had bodies in there. It wore on her mentally and I don't think she made the same kind."
