THE RUNDOWN
AUSTIN, Texas - Five student-athletes opened Baylor track and field's participation in the 89th Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays Thursday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
That contingent was highlighted by sophomore Kiana Hawn's 400-meter hurdle performance. The product of Forney, Texas, produced a personal-best time of 57.48 to win her heat and record the second-fastest qualifying time on the day. She will get a chance to run in Friday's 7 p.m. final. The mark is also the sixth-fastest time in school history and currently the sixth-best in the NCAA for the 2016 outdoor season.
It is the second-straight year that Hawn has earned a spot in the event finals at the Texas Relays, after posting a then-personal-best of 59.69 to be the final qualifier a year ago and then went on to finish ninth in the finals.
On the men's side in the 400-meter hurdles, Antwuan Musgrove (53.81) and Robert Dutton (54.32), finished 39th and 52nd, respectively, in qualifying.
In the javelin, senior Richard Hansen delivered his best throw on his second attempt with a heave of 196-3 [59.83m]. That throw ranked him eight, after all six rounds of competition were finished.
On the women's side in javelin, Megan SaxvanderWeyden used a large improvement on her third throw to clinch the final qualifying spot and earn three more throws. However, the freshman's third attempt of 138-2 [42.11m] proved to be her best on the day and she remained ninth.
