WACO, Texas -- The 50th-ranked Baylor women's tennis team will host three matches this weekend, two on Friday and one on Sunday, at the Hurd Tennis Center.
On Friday, the Bears will face Lamar at 10 a.m., followed by Oklahoma at 5 p.m. in the continuation of Big 12 play. Baylor will finish off the weekend by taking on No. 17 Oklahoma State Sunday at 2 p.m.
"There's been good progress," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "There's been good growth. And that's always positive, but we are still waiting for our entire team to show up for a match. This weekend will give us an opportunity for a breakthrough."
The Bears have won three of their last four matches, including a doubleheader at home against Prairie View A&M and Northwestern on March 23. Baylor now holds a 7-11 overall record and a 1-1 record in Big 12 Conference play.
Baylor's lineup boasts the No. 14-ranked duo of Kiah Generette and Blair Shankle, who as a team are 10-5 on the season with three straight wins.
The Lamar Cardinals hold a 9-7 record on the year. Last time out, the Cardinals topped Sam Houston State by a score of 4-3 Wednesday.
Against Lamar, the Bears are 6-5 all-time, with wins in their last six meetings. The last time the two teams met, BU claimed a 7-0 win in 2002.
Oklahoma is 7-7 on the season and 2-0 in the Big 12. The Sooners most recently played West Virginia, producing a 4-0 win over the Mountaineers. That win marked the sixth shutout for OU this season. Oklahoma's roster features two ranked singles players in Lily Miyazaki at No. 110 and Emma Devine at No. 120.
Baylor is 19-3 all-time versus the Sooners. The Bears have won the last 13 meetings in the all-time series, including a 4-0 victory in March 2015.
OSU, ranked No. 17, holds a 14-4 overall record and a 2-0 mark in conference play. The Cowgirls have won their last three matches, including wins over WVU, No. 21 Tulsa and Iowa State. The Oklahoma State lineup features three ranked singles players, including No. 33 Katarina Adamovic, No. 38 Vladica Babic and No. 62 Viktoriya Lushkova. In doubles, OSU boasts three ranked duos. Kelsey Laurente and Maria Alvarez sit at No. 23, Carla Tur Mari and Lushkova are ranked at No. 38 and the team of Adamovic and Babic come in at No. 45.
Against OSU, the Bears are 20-5 in the all-time series. The Bears have come out with the win in each of their last three meetings.
Following the weekend's action, the Bears will head north to Fort Worth to face No. 30 TCU on April 8 at 2:30 p.m.
Prior to the evening match on Friday and the afternoon match Sunday, the team will host a session of the Baylor Cub Tennis Program at 4 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively. Children 11-years-old and under can come to the Hurd Tennis Center to receive free basic tennis instruction.
Admission to all home regular season matches is free. The first 100 fans in attendance at Sunday's match receive a free ice cream float and free foam fingers.
