THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas -- The 50th-ranked Baylor women's tennis team (9-11) recorded its second win of the day with a 4-2 victory over Oklahoma (7-8) Friday evening at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
As with the Bears' first match of the day against Lamar, the match was scheduled to be played at the Hurd Tennis Center, but was forced indoors by inclement weather.
In doubles action, the 14th-ranked tandem of Kiah Generette and Blair Shankle struck first with a 6-1 win over Lily Miyakazi and Emma Devine on court one. Next, Kelley Anderson and Elizabeth Profit recorded a 7-5 win over Zita Engbroks and Christiana Brigante on court two to clinch the doubles point for the Bears.
In singles, Oklahoma tied it quickly as Kelley Anderson retired on court four, trailing 6-0 to Simran Sethi. Then, Christiana Brigante defeated Karina Traxler 7-5, 6-0 on court five to put the Sooners ahead, 2-1.
Baylor tied it back up at 2-2 with a 6-0, 7-5 win by Blair Shankle over No. 110 Lily Miyazaki on court one.
Next, Gabriela Ferreira topped Malene Stripp by a score of 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 on court six to give the Bears a 3-2 lead with two matches remaining.
Kiah Generette lost the first set against No. 120 Emma Devine on court two, but came back to win 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 to clinch the match for the Bears.
